Key Features
- Etec recently carried out a refurbishment and extension project to Cherry Trees Children’s Respite Centre in Surrey
- This included a new extension to triple the centre’s provision of WCs and washing facilities along with internal refurbishment and remodelling of the existing building
- We took responsibility for the M&E design of the extension along with ensuring that all fittings and alterations were DDA compliant
- We also took on the complete design for a canopy walkway form the main building to the new facilities
- We established a good relationship with the Cherry Trees staff and the children’s carers to make sure their needs were allowed for
- As part of our commitment to Social Added Value we relaid paths around the site, disposed of a redundant play area, and redecorated the art block free of charge
Challenges and Solutions
- The site remained in full occupation throughout the works which required strict safety and security
- Access and egress was timed to allow use of all the facilities on site to reduce disruption to normal operations
- Asbestos was identified by our site team that had not been picked up on the client’s own reports. This was successfully identified, tested, and removed with resequencing of works meaning we still achieved our programme
- No snags were identified and the new facilities were ready for full occupation and use on the day of the handover
