Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club

Bishops Stortford Golf Club Case Study

Key Features

Etec delivered a £2.1m full internal refurbishment of Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club within a live clubhouse environment, carefully phased to maintain uninterrupted daily operations throughout the programme. Works included refurbishment of bar and dining areas, kitchen facilities, changing rooms, circulation spaces, and first-floor member areas, alongside associated M&E upgrades, specialist joinery, flooring, and finishes. Temporary facilities were introduced to support continued club use while maintaining safe segregation between members, staff, and construction activities. Close coordination with the client team, consultants, and specialist subcontractors ensured efficient delivery within an occupied leisure setting.

Challenges and Solutions

Delivered within a live clubhouse environment, requiring phased sequencing to maintain member access and daily operations throughout the contract.

Temporary facilities and welfare arrangements were established to allow uninterrupted use of key club functions during construction.

Strict segregation measures, controlled pedestrian routes, and managed access points maintained safety for members, staff, and operatives.

Tight site logistics required careful planning of deliveries, compound arrangements, and material movement.

Early procurement of long lead items, including specialist joinery, lift components, cubicles, and bifolding doors, protected programme certainty.

Ongoing liaison with club management allowed disruptive activities to be scheduled around operational requirements.

Innovations

Value engineering was applied across procurement and sequencing to maximise efficiency without compromising quality. A phased handover approach enabled completed areas to be progressively returned to the client, reducing disruption and supporting continued occupation throughout delivery.
