Rhyl Leisure Centre

Key Features

  • Rhyl Leisure Centre is constructed on the site of an old school and was due for refurbishment works as part of the larger regeneration scheme being undertaken in Rhyl
  • We remodelled the disused ground floor to create a new communications area, GP referral room, and fitness assessment facility
  • M&E services were left exposed to create the industrial look desired by the client
  • A new reception area was created by altering the layout of the building to use the space previously occupied by changing facilities and toilets
  • Structural alterations allowed the creation of a first floor including a new spin room, changing and shower areas, and gym
  • The existing gym required electrical work and received full redecorations upon completion
  • We also completed decorations and flooring to all corridors and communal areas throughout the leisure centre

Challenges and Solutions

  • The leisure centre remained open at all times during the works but with total segregation
  • Our compound was erected to the rear of the building with a dedicated access point so that our site team would have no impact on the customer facing areas of the building
  • Keeping the building open required us to complete the entire ground floor before works to the first floor could start. This allowed us to decant equipment to other areas to maintain use
  • Noisy works were conducted out of hours to avoid disruption when the building was in use during the day
